Sam Holmes

Trainee Patent Attorney

Sam joined Lawrie in 2021 and has a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences and is part of our electrical, software and mechanical team.

He has a particular interest in renewable energy, plasma technology, semiconductors, and lasers but enjoys working with a variety of inventions.

Sam is involved in drafting and prosecuting global patent families, performing due diligence reviews, preparing and filing registered designs, providing freedom to operate opinions, ownership advice and infringement opinions. He has experience in preparing responses to examination reports and producing IP audits for a range of clients and technologies.

Sam’s role satisfaction comes from seeing the direct impact his work has on the growth of his clients’ businesses.

As Lawrie’s certified Green Champion, Sam is also responsible for exploring how the team can become more sustainable and improving our impact on the environment. He has been responsible for measuring all sources of emissions from the office and implementing new, more sustainable practices, which have already seen a dramatic reduction in Lawrie’s environmental impact.

Qualifications

  • MSci Natural Sciences specialising in Physics (University of York)
  • Student Member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA)
